Seven Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign

Southampton Ferry

A business website does not need to follow every design trend. It does, however, need to work properly, represent the business accurately and make it easy for customers to take the next step.

Here are seven signs that your current website may be ready for a redesign.

1. It looks noticeably outdated

Potential customers will often see your website before they speak to you.

An old-fashioned layout, tiny text or dated imagery can create the impression that the business itself has stopped moving forward.

A redesign can modernise the presentation without losing the character and reputation you have already built.

2. It is difficult to use on a phone

Most websites now receive a significant proportion of their visits from mobile devices.

Visitors should not need to zoom, rotate their phone or struggle with small buttons. Contact details, navigation and enquiry forms should all be easy to use on a smaller screen.

If the mobile experience feels awkward, prospective customers may simply leave.

3. The website is slow

Large images, outdated code, excessive plugins and poor hosting can all make a website slow.

Speed matters because visitors do not enjoy waiting. It can also affect search visibility and the overall impression of your business.

A redesign is a good opportunity to remove unnecessary code and create a leaner website.

4. It no longer reflects the business

Businesses change. You may have introduced new services, entered different markets or improved the way you work.

If the website still describes the company as it was several years ago, it may attract the wrong enquiries—or fail to attract any at all.

Your website should explain clearly what you do today, who you help and why somebody should choose you.

5. Visitors are not making enquiries

Traffic alone is not the goal. A business website should help visitors become customers.

Unclear messages, hidden contact details and weak calls to action can prevent visitors from taking the next step.

A redesign can create clearer journeys around the questions and concerns real customers have.

6. Updating it is difficult

You should be able to change essential information without worrying that the whole page will break.

If every update requires specialist help—or the underlying software is no longer supported—the site may be creating unnecessary risk and expense.

A modern WordPress website can provide a much more manageable editing experience.

7. It performs poorly in search

A redesign cannot guarantee first place on Google, but it can correct technical problems that limit visibility.

These may include weak page structures, duplicated titles, missing descriptions, slow performance and content that does not match what customers search for.

SEO should be considered during the redesign, not added as an afterthought.

Is it time for a change?

A redesign should do more than give the site a new coat of paint. It should improve speed, usability, messaging and the number of valuable enquiries you receive.
